Erasing Scars With Cosmetic Surgery

Scars on the body and face look ugly and cause undue embarrassment. Scars may be on account of accidents, chicken pox or acne.

The markets are flooded with a variety of products that boast of fading, lightening and eradicating  scars.  We can find numerous ointments, peels and lotions to remove scars.

These ointments are not  very effective and ultimately people head towards cosmetic surgery clinics. Cosmetic surgery may not totally remove scars but can reduce them significantly.

The treatment depends upon the size, location, and type of scar. You must consult an expert physician before opting for such a  surgery.

If the scar is near the wound then it is treated differently. Through surgery scars can be hidden considerably.  In case of scars due to burns fresh skin is grafted on to the the scarred area.. If the scar tissue is extremely deep then it requires a skin flap. New scars are in a healing and changing stage. At times it may become difficult for the physician to determine a proper  course of action.

A scar should be at least one year old to be considered for cosmetic surgery. After the surgery the patient should follow the surgeon's instructions  with the greatest care.

Non-invasive scar removal methods includes the use of lasers. The treatment encourages natural production of collagen under the skin and tissues. Unfortunately the “laser peel” treatment is of use to people with fair complexion only.

Some people may use traditional chemical peel which results in pigmentation. If you still decide on this treatment then consult your physician about it. Failure to do so may lead to infection, scarring, redness and swelling. The side effects of  lasers are excretions that crust and may lead to scars. The skin becomes sensitive to lotions and cosmetics causing further irritation.
